Business Intelligence bundled

Microsoft bundles the basic BI capabilities with the database server "SQL Server", in the year 2008 as "SQL Server 2008" has been newly released. This is for SQL 7.0, SQL Server 2000 and 2005, the fourth "major release" of SQL Server with integrated business intelligence capabilities. These are considered very mature and stable platform for BI and consist of three basic "services":

  • Integration Services
    Is the offer for Extraction, Transformation and Loading (ETL), the "loading" of a BI application with data from different source systems such as SAP ERP, Oracle databases and other sources.

  • Reporting Services
    Is a proprietary, highly functional product for the "mass reporting", the creation of standard reports that are made by paper or web-browsers typically a large number of users available.

  • Analysis Services
    the "OLAP" (online analytical processing) component of SQL Server, the centerpiece of Microsoft BI. Provides for the organization and presentation of multidimensional data.
