Ever since Microsoft has entered the market for Business Intelligence in the late nineties with version 7.0 of SQL Server and its analytic capabilities of OLAP Services, Microsoft has stepped up the game and defined the market. 

The product suite was constantly complemented and expanded and today comprises best in class components for Reporting, Analysis, Data Mining, Dashboarding, Portals, Metadata Management and more, making the Microsoft BI stack the leading BI plattform. This is also reflected by leading analysts such as Gartner in their „Magic Quadrant“.

Unlike most of its competitors Microsoft has chosen to build upon their own developmant instead of buying distinct technology to form their solution portfolio. As a result the Microsoft platform offers great consistency that allows modular implemention without losing the advantage of unified technology and processes.

With Microsoft SQL Server and Office 2010, due for launch in Q2 2010 we see the next major leap towards information democratization - BI for the masses. We consider PowerPivot - a new im memory analysis extension to Excel and SharePoint - the most revolutionary part of this innovation fireworks. It will enable business users to create their own analysis - no matter what amount of data - and share it with others.
